What We Are Learning...

Reading-  Readers understand the main topic in a text, and find supporting facts to prove it.  As writers in reading, they will understand that facts and definitions develop points and help readers understand what the author wants to explain, answer and or describe.

Writing- We will be learning about poetry.

Math- Group 1 is working on Chapter 10: Data

Group 2 &3 is working on Chapter 9: Length in Metric Units 

The upcoming chapters are:

Chapter 10: Data

Chapter 11: Geometry

We are all constantly working on problem solving and how to explain our work in words.

Social Studies- We are working on New York City Over Time.

Science- We are continuing to work on Forces and Motion.

Important Dates:

Trips:
March 14th trip to Bowne Museum was canceled due to snow.  It will be rescheduled for sometime in May.  Therefore, I will hold onto the money... that way I don't have to recollect it.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this

CookShop

CookShop promotes nutrition, health and obesity prevention through hands-on lessons and workshops.

The children will be working on a series of sensory exploration and cooking activities to foster children's enjoyment and consumption of healthy foods and their appreciation for nutrition.

This is a six-unit, 18 lesson curricula that will be implemented in our class over the months from January to May.

I will need 3 parent volunteers every Wednesday from 9:45 to 11:45.  Please write to me in a note or send me an email, letting me know if you are available to help out.

Happy New Year!!!!!!   I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday break and new year!  I want to thank each and every one of you and your children for the fabulous gifts I received this holiday season.  That was very thoughtful and much appreciated.  From the bottom of my heart, I say thank you once again.  

I love working with your children and cannot ask for a better group of parents/guardians to work with as well.

What We Are Learning...

Reading-  Children will be writing a narrative in which they add a scene to Charlotte's Web.  They will be understanding relationships between characters through the events and challenges in a story.

Writing- We will be continuing to write about science by creating lab reports and science books.

Math- Group 1 is working on Chapter 6: 3-digit addition and subtraction and should be having a test at the beginning of the week (1/9/17)

Group 2 &3 had their Ch.5 test on the Friday before the break. We began Chapter 6: 3-digit addition and subtraction today.  

We are all constantly working on problem solving and how to explain our work in words.

Social Studies- We are working on our Communities Geography.

Science- We are working on Forces and Motion.

What We Are Learning...

Reading-  We will be answering questions about details and information in a text.  Writing an opinion using reasons to express their main purpose.

Writing- We will be starting to write about science by creating lab reports and science books.

Math- Group 1 is currently working on Chapter 4: 2-digit addition and should be having a test at the beginning of the week (11/21/16)

Group 2 &3 is having their test on Ch.3 tomorrow and will begin Chapter 4: 2-digit addition next week.  

We are all constantly working on problem solving and how to explain our work in words.

Social Studies- We are still continuing to work on Unit 1: Communities.

Science- We are ending our work on soil, sand and silt. They will have an assessment to wrap this unit up at the end of next week (Novemeber 14th)

We will begin to work on Forces and Motion after the assessment on Earth Materials.

Important Dates:

- Field trip to Hall of Science on Tuesday, Novemeber 29

* Please send in permission slips with money in either an envelope or a ziploc bag, labeled with your child's name and the trip.
November 11- Veteran's Day- NO SCHOOL!

November 15- Thanksgiving Celebration/ November Birthdays/ Small Moment Publishing Party @ 9:00 a.m. in our classroom.  All are welcome and hope you can attend!

Writing- We will be continuing our work on small moment stories.  Recounting a sequence of events using beginnings, endings, and details to describe actions, thought and feelings.
